: -Anybody know differences between '99,'00,'01'?
: Comments on:
: 1. No limited slip rear?
: 2. No rack&pinion steering?
: 3. No double vanos?
: Sold E36M3 - I know, it's a different car. In the market for E46M3 or 540i. Interested in 540i but want to make the right decision.
: >>Any opinions greatly appreciated.

I, too, wondered a bit about the recirculating steering. The truth is they could not find room for rack and pinion, or so I have discovered. Truth is, that despite whether this is the case, or that for this size car, ???, it is needed, I relish driving this car, in STOCK form, more than any other car I have owned so far. Double Vanos? My thoughts were that the straight six benefits from this more than the V8, and it would have added too much $$ to the 540 sticker. Limited Slip? I cannot tell you of a time where I have missed it. The onboard controls, (read technology), overcome any lack here. Buy yourself a 540 and enjoy. jcs '00 540 6spd.......
