.....than shift. Isn't that the purpose of a 60K luxury sport sedan?

I agree with another comment in this thread that if you really want a manual get a sports car with a manual.

The other reasons:
DC suburb traffic. Had a manual SHO and a Pontiac Formula and they were alot of work for commuting. When I retire and move to a place where I can DRIVE, I'd reconsider the choice.

Don't feel the need..... After years of 5 and 6 speeds, I fit the age demographic for the 540i and have gotten the speed shifting, stoplight racing, and mountain blitzing out of my system.

If I have the need for speed I trade cars with my brother for a few days. He has a tuned and brutally fast Cobra that isn't too costly if something breaks, turns like it's on rails, and is a blast to drive. (My kidneys usually hurt for a few days after thrashing this car around.)

One more thing - I am getting used to the delay in the Step and it isn't too bad. Seems to work alot better if you turn off the DSC, and modulate the throttle a bit on upshift; and I'm still breaking her in so I haven't pushed it too hard.

So don't have a guilty conscience either way. It all depends on what YOU will be happy with.

Tom
