Bee,

I do not think that Jon was used. First of all, Phil was clear that Cutter was not close, second, Phil paid $2,600 profit which is not a rock bottom deal and Phil knows it is not. Finally, as a professional negotiator, I do not think Phil is using dirty tactics, considering the tactics i have seen used by car salesmen (no disrespect or implication to either you or Jon). Car sales system is set up to be a very difficult to get a low profit margin from a retail dealer. Enough said...guess you and I are getting philosophical again.

: Phil,
: I believe in competetive market, and believe in shop for the best deal, However, my "problem" with you scenerio, is that Jon Shaffer's Cutter Motor was "used" for a lack of better word, by you as an bargaining tool. Now, I have never met Jon personally, nor have I talk to him. I have never been to Cutter, and have yet bought anything from them. But I do not this, haggin out at this board for the past 8 months. He is a super nice guy, and have help others on this board without any finacial gain. I was quite dissapointed reading your post and realizing he was used as a bargaing chip. Now I may be a bit emotional on this topic, due to the fact i was in auto sales during my first couple years in college. I have had situation like this happen to me, and I'll tellya', it sucks!! I (felt) was a curterous, no hassle, no pressure, salesman, would certainly appreciate a second chance to make the sales, just simply, you would not have the negotiation that much easier w/out my original quote.

: In any event, congrats to you on your new E39, and welcome aboard.

: Just wished it didn't happened to JonnyBoy.

: : Hello, I thought I would share my order of a 528i and how much I am going to pay. What I ordered: 528i White/black w/5 speed, sport package, Xenons, electric seats, leather, split rear seats. After pricing the car online and with Cutter BMW, I decided to offer my local dealer a chance to sell me the car. I ended going with the local dealer for $2600 ( 6.4% OI; $43,380 total) over invoice with the dealer agreeing to buy me a roof rack ($230). I know I could have paid a little less ($300-$500) but I am thinking that I might get a little better service from the local dealer since I bought the car from him. Will have to see on that one, as in general I do not trust most mechanics (sorry to all the honest, ethical mechanics out there.)I feel like I got a fair deal. How much did you pay for your similar 528i?

: : P.S. I wish I lived closer to Cutter BMW in Santa Barbara as they seem like a super dealer and immediatly responded to my request for a quotation on this car. If it is convenient for you to order a car from them I would say go for it!
