In Reply to: 4-banger to 528i. Will power be enuff? (more) posted by Jay S. on February 27, 2000 at 21:36:17:

Thanks so much for the suggestions and help. I was really looking for some "real world" advice. To help you-all:

1.I'd get an E34 (or even E39; some good deals around here) 540i but don't want to make an ass of myself by not being able to handle the large quantities of power! I'm a decent driver but, if used to flooring pedal courtesy 4-banger, don't wanna fly off the curve at 100mph!

2.I'm in podunk, midwest! So opportunities for test drives are fairly limited. I'm gonna be restricted to a quick test drive just before purchase to make sure everything's ok.

3.My plan is to basically use the 528i as a "daily driver, mall trip" till the wheels fall off! Assuming I'm not kicked out of my new job, I'd get an M3 or a CPO-ed E39 540i in 2 years to take care of the "weekend fun" factor.

4.NYC traffic sux but NO WAY am I getting an auto. Even in the crazy traffic that is Bangkok, Manila, Boston or San Francisco, I've always preferred STICK! Gonna shift till my legs fall off! Besides, I figure with a stick I could always select the right gear and revs to squeeze power out when zipping around on weekends.

Any comments or suggestions on this would be appreciated.
Thanks!
J.
