The sport package was not available when I bought my '97 540i. I have since driven one with the sports suspension. Enormous difference. I would heartily recommend the sports option. The base car is way too softly sprung. There is a constant imperceptible wiggle wobble back and forth over anything other than a ruller smooth asphalt road that makes long trips fatiguing. Your body is constantly trying to hold itself straight while the car wobbles around. The ride, in my opinion, is actually BETTER with the sport option.
