Re: 540 test drive (archive)

I test drove the 528 at Flemington BMW but they had no manual tranny cars and no 540's at all and couldn't get one in the near future. I called Hunterdon BMW later that day and they had just received a Cosmas black 540/6sp and said they could have the car ready for a test drive in an hour. My wife left work early and we met at the dealer and after the drive I knew I had to have this car.

The car has the sport package, premium sound, heated seats and the 5 spoke wheel upgrade. I told them I would think about it and when I got home JMK BMW called and said they had a white 540i on the floor and had a black and a silver one due in in February. Well their price was the same as Hunterdon's and the Cosmos black was the color I really wanted so the next day I bought it. At delivery a few days later it had 17 miles on it of which I put 10 miles in my test drive.

The sport package is great and the ride, although firm, is never jarring and to me is just about the perfect compromise between agressive handling and comfort.

Of the dealers I talked to, JMK had the most 540's and may be your best possibility of finding one for a test drive. I do not know how JMK is as a dealer but so far Hunterdon BMW had treated me good.

JMK is on RT22 in Sptingfield and Hunterdon is on RT22 in Lebanon. Good luck and get the sport package - you will not regret it.

: I wanted to take a 540ia for a test drive today at a local dealer, central NJ, however they only had a 528 for a demo. Does any one know a BMW dealer in the area that has a 540 in stock?
: Although the archive has a few recommendations for the 540-sport upgrade, is there anyone how did not buy the upgrade and regret it?
