I recently bought my new 528 SPORT (SPP). A truly incredible car. Black with tan. I agree the stereo truly sucks, my wife bought a new MB with the Bose system it is incredible sounding, truly first rate. BMW really should take note as music adds to the driving experience. In any case, the 528 is more fun to drive than her car and it feels like a sports car not a sedan. I have had a 94 540i and I am back with BMW again. Feels good!
: Hi everyone...
: After 5 days and a mere 200 miles, I can officially join the club (can I can I??) This car is ummm... ummmm... trying to think of a word that hasn't been used yet... well, it's perfect.. except for the standard stereo. (more on that later)
: My thoughts -- I look behind me and can't believe I'm driving a SEDAN (this is my first 4 door) This car is so solid and so tight, it's better than any coupe I've owned.
: The 2.8 with 5 speed manual has plenty enough power. I haven't pushed it hard, but it's been able to accomplish everything I've needed, including quick lane changes followed with quick acceleration, and 60-75 acceleration uphill. This engine does everything smoothly and without complaint. I can't wait to push it harder!
: The shifter and clutch are very easy to modulate and shift smoothly. duhh... oops, except I have killed the engine twice on takeoff. I think I'm used to my old clutch that was on its last leg.
: Brakes are phenomenal. Surprising grip without a nose-dive. Perfect suspension. Everything you've read is true. No disappointments. (i have the sport pkg)
: I'm extremely impressed and feel safe and secure with this car. It's quiet and quick... just what I wanted.
: My car came with the Dunlop SP2000's.
: Word of advice -- GET THE XENONS. They make this car extra special. Turning them on gives me a thrill... they ignite... then position themselves... REALLY cool. A good conversation piece as well. "check out my xenons!!"
: and the stereo... I got the standard issue, no DSP. I am honestly disappointed. I'm no audio engineer, but I do know what's good and what ain't. There are a few crisp highs, but not enough, and there is hardly enough low end. Distortion happens in every "range." I did expect better. Not sure what I'll do, but some sort of aftermarket equipment is going to be necessary, I think. I just don't want someone to rip up my car. Any suggestions? anyone? anyone? As is, the stereo "plays music", and that's about it. It's okay for now... while I pay for the cd changer, car cover, tint and lojack. :-)
: didn't want to end on a sour "note" so I'll just say that when you read that the 5 series is the best sport-luxury sedan you can buy, it's true. It's a winner and I'm hooked. This car will begin the spoiling of me. I know I got the best car I could buy with my $42K ++ tax and accessories.
: also, if you're in the LA area and want a good deal.. I highly recommend Tim Cunningham at New Century BMW in Alhambra. He gave me a SCREAMIN' deal, and kept me informed of the car's status the whole way... and calmed my nerves when I went out test driving other cars during my extended wait. Tim is at 626-570-8444 (shameless plug, but trust me, he's worth it) He did everything I asked, and was professional about it.
: Oh and ONE MORE THING -- Glacier Green is BEAUTIFUL I don't care watcha say!!
: :-)
: Thanks for listening,
: Hope to meet some of you at Bimmerfest in Santa Barbara
