Hopefully more than just a nit, but you don't really have MP3's in the car. What you have are WAV files of MP3's you own (right?) at home.

The big benefit is you get 6x74 minutes of songs you like, not just a couple of songs per CD.

In an earlier post (couple of days ago) I posed the "who actually has MP3s in the car" question. No one did but I did get some good leads for where to turn.

The beauty of MP3 is the small size. A single CD can hold 74 minutes of music but about 10 hours of MP3's. Given the terrible accoustics of a car, the minor degredation of sound caused by the compression is not even noticeable (assuming a reasonably high bit-rate (160+) recording and a decent MP3 decoder).

: Okay heres the deal. If you have a large MP3 Collection and want to play it in your car, (CD player required) you can get a peice of software from Adaptec called "soundstream". I got a copy last night and it it awesome! It's an MP3 to CDA translator with an integrated CD burner utility! You pick the songs you want from your MP3 collection, add them to the burn list and thats it!

: The software translates, and burns it to the cd. The catch is that you can still only get 74 minutes on a standard cd, but with a 6 cd changer thats almost 8 hours of your faforite mp3s!!!

: I played my first cd on the way to work this morning and couldn't beleive how cool it was to now have a portable MP3 library (in 74 minute increments).

: And no...I don't work for Adaptec.

: Hope this helps!

: R
