The Lincoln LS / Jaguar "S" paltform was a JOINT effort between Jaguar Engineering in the UK and dearborn. It is my understanding that the Jaguar team was in the "driver's seat". Ford has done wonderfull things for Jaguar. Jaguar's main problem was that although they were conceptually gereat cars, the manufacturing engineering team did a very poor job of putting into production the very good basic designs. Ford has turned that around.

: If Jaguar's experience is any indication, BMWs would now be built on Ford chassis to save money as the new S-Type is. That is ok with a Jag which wasn't much of a car to start with but it will take the heart right out of a BMW. It'l become nothing more than a rebadged Lincoln LS. Quality will improve, which BMW severely needs, but it won't be a BMW any more.
