: : : It all looks like a big o chess game between NoAm and Euro: my Ford takes your Aston Martin/Land Rover/Jag. Oh yeah my Daimler eats your big a** Chrysler...

:
: : It's much more global than that: Renault has bought a controlling interest in Nissan, GM has a controlling stake in Isuzu (and in fact has them doing much of the product development work for GM's US-market truck line) and that's just what I can remember right now.

: : Interesting that Ford is the one executing on Pischetsrieder's beloved goal of resurrecting the Brit auto industry. Jaguar is now prosperous, Aston Martin is getting some attention again, etc. The Land Rover purchase gives Reitzle the LR/RR brands to play with again.

: : Back to the point: Ford has not bought BMW, but they'd love to, and if they ever have a chance to do it they will.
