: The Lincoln LS / Jaguar "S" paltform was a JOINT effort between Jaguar Engineering in the UK and dearborn.
The Ford DEW98 project (the LS) was well along and test mules were on the road before Ford bought Jaguar. It was designed as a replacement for the Ford Scorpio/Granada. Jag came into the program later.
From a technical-content standpoint, the LS is very impressive - better in some ways than the E39. Rack-and-pinion steering, upper/lower arm front suspension w/tall forged-aluminum spindle, etc.
Material quality isn't up to BMW spec, but then neither is the Jag S-type (and IMO, hard plastic console aside, the LS interior is a good bit nicer than the Jag.)
