: I've been reading some posts about StarTac and NAV vs. no-Nav. I'm consdering getting 540i but can't decide whether to get Nav or not (due to old/slow CDROM technology vs. DVD, probable inability to upgrade in future, inferior user I/F, etc.). I might go for it if there were added benefits integrating with phone.

I have the nav but not the phone. AFAIK, the only real advantage is that you use the screen as the interface to the phone "address book" when you have the navigation system. I don't know if this really makes it better or not.
Note that some of the phone's car integration features only work with the full OBC which is currently standard only on the 540 (with or without navigation). The only way to get the full OBC on the 528 is to order the nav system (in the US, at least).
