I also have the same problem, '00 528i. I saw on the video, read in the manual (not too likely the source), or heard in the audio tape, that when entering the car with the driver door open (key not in ignition) then you press your memory setting button once and everything moves into the correct position. If you are seated in the car and key is in and turned, then you have to press and hold your memory position button down and it will also return to the proper positions.

I for one hope they fix the glitch soon. These work-arounds are clumsy, since I never ever remember to press the button on the way in the car.


: Two week old 2000 528i. Unlocking w/ remote key moves the steering column in and up all the way. Putting the key in the ignition to station two and starting does not return it to preset outer location, but does adjust it slightly down per memory. I must press memory # on door panel to have it return to preset location? Anyone have an idea of what is wrong, if anything? It seems to me that the key memory should restore steering column to the memory position?
