: : My Bmw E39(528i ,Yr 1996) overheated again [deleted]

: Correct me if I am wrong but it is my beleive that I6s have iron block and V8, V12 have aluminum block. [deleted]

My understanding is '97 was the first year for E39 vehicles in the US. (Unless the car is a REALLY late '96.) Is it European non BMW NA official import ??- then it might have an aluminum block otherwise - US vehicles did not get the aluminum block until '99 or '00 - - so short of getting a magnet on the block to check if it is a BMW NA import before MY '99 or '00 it should be an iron block.
