: I hate the car buying experience, so I want a reliable car I can keep for 5-6 years at 25k per year. Many of the posts I read here and elsewhere imply that it may be smart to get out of the BMW before the warranty runs out. Great driving car, but not really built well enough to hold for a long time. Any thoughts appreciated... Thanks in advance.

First things first, any car with proper maintance will deliver at least 150,000 mi. With that said any fine german automobile will double that. As an auto mechanic it kills me to hear people refer to the engine being dead because of a simple head gasket etc,etc....... The average bimmer owner just wants to drive, he dosen't even bother to check the oil. some important advise spend some time under the hood and if your afraid you'll get dirty put on some gloves. there's nothing wrong with the hood of a bimmer being open!
