don't overlook the following negatives about the 540i:

(1) recirculating ball steering for the 540i versus rack and pinion for the 528; the rack and pinion is far superior.

(2) the 540i car is too heavy, even with sport suspension; it is not nimble enough for a sports sedan. you will, however, like the 540 if you like a heavier mercedes type driving experience; but, if you really want a sports sedan feel, don't get the 540i.

sure, it has power. but the car is too one dimensionally designed only with power. not much else given the price of the 540i.

you can tell, and i admit, i am not a fan of the 540i. i've been driving Bimmers for 22 years, and recently owned a 540, but only for 3 months.

: Found a clean Aspen Silver, 97, 5spd 528i at a local car lot (not BMW center) with 52k for $28,500.00. car seem very thight but has a squeak in drivers door. I've read archives and this seems to be a common problem with this model. I've been looking for a a 5sp for a several months now and this is the nicest I've found. Ran Carfax, appears to be a lease car from PA. Please advise!
