: Found a clean Aspen Silver, 97, 5spd 528i at a local car lot (not BMW center) with 52k for $28,500.00. car seem very thight but has a squeak in drivers door. I've read archives and this seems to be a common problem with this model. I've been looking for a a 5sp for a several months now and this is the nicest I've found. Ran Carfax, appears to be a lease car from PA. Please advise!

Dan, can't advise you on the price in your area, but it sounds OK to me. Try looking at other advertised prices on cars.com and your local paper, as well as pre-owned cars at local BMW dealers. All else being equal, you shouldn't pay as much as you would to a BMW dealer due to lack of warranty extension, etc.

I just purchased a '97 540 6-speed (from a non-BMW dealer, coincidentally) and it had a huge squeek in the drivers door, which turned out to be the driver's armrest (you could push it to cause the sound). Dealer fixed it in a jiffy by tightening some screws or somesuch, now it's perfect. I've read that others have had a noise caused by the old-style door seals. I have the old style (no fuzz on the door's side) and haven't had a problem with 'em yet.

Good luck!
Bruce
