Another reason to lurk on this board. Problem solved.

: While driving my '00 528iT (6800 mi) this afternoon, there suddenly appeared a scraping sound, definitely coming from the area of the front right wheel. The noise was definitely wheel-connected; you could hear the pitch change as the car changed speed. I couldn't see anything caught. My initial reaction was that a brake pad wear sensor had come loose and was scraping against the rotor, but I couldn't see anything. I also wondered whether a piece of gravel or metal could have gotten caught between the brake pad and the rotor, but again I couldn't see anything, and there did not appear to be any marks on the rotor. And, the brakes felt normal. I was driving around looking for a service station that could put the car on a lift (not easy to find in central Connecticut at 530 on a Sunday afternoon), and the noise went away, leading me to feel more strongly that it was something caught.
: Has anyone else experienced anything like that? I plan to take the car to the dealer for an interim oil change anyway and will have them look at it, but I'd love to know if anyone thinks this is indicative of anything else.
