: Found a clean Aspen Silver, 97, 5spd 528i at a local car lot (not BMW center) with 52k for $28,500.00. car seem very thight but has a squeak in drivers door.

I bought a similar (but black) one (3/97 build)with 65K on it in November. I replaced the driver door seal myself - about $48 with CCA discount. It had the typical butt-wear. Replaced the rear upper seal as well, about $28. Easy work, less than 15 minutes each although the dealer wanted to charge an hour each.

My only worry about lease cars is that many leaseholders, knowing that the car goes away in 2-3 years, don't worry a whole lot about maintenance. Ask any dealer mechanic - they all have horror stories. Odd that a lease car would end up on a private lot - they usually go back to the dealer. Check it out very carefully. If you can figure out what dealer serviced it they will usually tell you the maint history.

I'm very happy with my car, plenty of power for all practical purposes, although a little short for "impractical" purposes.

I changed the wheels and tires fromt the 15" to a set of 17" 540 radial spoke wheels - big difference in looks and ride. Keeping the 15s for winter. Also added UUC shortshifter.
