YES it's $300 a year but with Membership Rewards you have so much more flexibility than with a simple affinity card. You can use any airline within their program, and they have many that will get you to any destination worldwide. They also have shopping awards and such but IMHO the only rewards that are really worth it are the upgrades to first class... that's what I use all my mileage on. Forget the free tickets, they eat up too many miles! I'd rather pay 1/6th the price of first class and upgrade. :D

Also, among the many benefits they have one that no other card can match. The Platinum Travel Service is INCREDIBLY useful. They're available 24/7 and can book a ticket or change a reservation at the drop of a hat.

They were a lifesaver when my travel plans changed while in Europe. I called 'em up at 2 am US time and booked a new flight... the ticket was waiting for me at the airport. It was painless! I've booked entire trips through them before and their service is exemplary... I think it's worth $300 a year to have a full service travel agency that's open all the time.
