5 series:2001 vs 2000 revisited (archive)

I read that the 2000 193HP and 206fp of torque will be replaced by a "530" 2001 with 225HP and 214fp of torque:

2 question: what could explain a ~16% increase in HP but marginal torque increase?

And knowing that torque is the most important ...what s the point of changing engine?
