More horsepower gives you increased top-end punch.

: Marketing people at BMW are well aware of the impact of increased horsepower. Except those who know what torque is (and I would think the vast majority of car owners actually don't), everyone will be impressed with a car that now has 225 hp, rather than 193!

: Which of the following are most commonly heard, and most impressive?:

: 1. "Hey man, check this out! My car's got 225 hp!"
: Reply: WOW!!! That's awesome!
: 2. "Hey man, check this out! My car's got 217 lbs/ft of torque!"
: Reply: Eh.. nice.. real sweet.. eh..
