My dealer claims that the '99 E39s have IR transmitters and you have to have the key in line-of-sight of the mirror for it to work. LOL, you should see his face when I activated the alarm with the key in my pocket. Moral of the story, read the owner's manual and this forum so you are armed when you go to your dealer.
