: While this is most likely something that 5
series owners don't want to hear ...

: I recently went on a 5 hour drive in my new 523.
While it is a 523, it is an individual series with
premium seats with nappa leather. IMHO, ride
comfort is seriously worse than in a E-class
mercedes. After adjusting the seats numerous times
I could not get in a position that was comfortable
for a long period of time. I've never had this
problem when driving my Eclass from SF to LA.
: Any other owners who have drove both cars feel
the same way?

One does get the impression that--even on sports seats--BMW is no longer using Recaro as a supplier or advisor...in terms of design/thought given to the small but critical details. Yes, BMW give us the 7er "sport/comfort" combo seats--and make it optional on all E39 models since seats are arguably single most important piece of equipment on the car, comfort and (related) safety-wise. "Regular" seats at least need to be a little longer of thigh..tho BMW probably shortened that aspect to accomodate the growing female buyer/ driver market segment. Fine, but--suggested minimal solution: put manual version of extended thigh bolster (fr sport seat) on all non sports. Doesn't address other (wt. distribution pts, etc.) concerns, but at least that one's a no-brainer!
