: I just purchased a CPO 1997 528iA a few weeks ago. When cruzing on smooth pavement at around 70-75 mph, my steering wheel vibrates. Is this normal? What I find weird is I notice it not on somewhat rough pavement, but only VERY smooth pavement. It's not very pronounced, but I am still noticable. Should I have the wheels balanced and/or aligned? The dealer says that all of this was done when the new tires were put on less than 500 miles ago.

You are experiencing the mysterious steering wheel vibration that several 1997 528i owners have noted in this forum. One owner said that the replacement of the "T-Bar" in the steering linkage solved his vibration problem. I'm going to ask my dealer about this. Do a search for "vibration" in the forum search to see the previous postings for this problem (including mine). I am having the same problem and am taking my car into my BMW dealer again after changing the tires at their suggestion with no effect on the vibration problem. I've had my tires balanced four times now, one balancing done by the dealer with no effect at all on the problem. If you find the answer, please post it.
