I suggest you might want to forget using the steptronic part (shifting yourself) but shift it into "sport" mode (4 th in a non steptronic and left shift to M/S in the steptronic. Then leave it there and let the auto do its thing.

You will find that the sport and standard modes make it feel like 2 totally different cars.

I do not have the steptronic - but I still shift in and out of sport depending on what I am doing. I often shift into sport in heavy traffic and at intersections - much better throttle control of acc and decelleration.
