Jim...
I have the automatic transmission without the steptronic shifter, and was downshifting to brake until I saw some posts indicating that was a no-no. BTW I thought steptronic-equipped transmissions could be shifted up and down with the shifter. So...if the transmission is the same whether equipped with the steptronic shifter or the normal shifter, does that mean I can go back to downshifting without bringing harm to the automatic transmission?

tks
Bob
(PS my 4 jack lifts are on order - thanks!)

: : : Also how is the 540 automatic? does it have steptronic?

:
: : It still acts like an automatic, it still feels like an automatic, its automatic shift quality isn't any different than the non-Steptronic automatics.

:
: I suggest you might want to forget using the steptronic part (shifting yourself) but shift it into "sport" mode (4 th in a non steptronic and left shift to M/S in the steptronic. Then leave it there and let the auto do its thing.

: You will find that the sport and standard modes make it feel like 2 totally different cars.

: I do not have the steptronic - but I still shift in and out of sport depending on what I am doing. I often shift into sport in heavy traffic and at intersections - much better throttle control of acc and decelleration.

: Cheers
