: I have ordered a 540iA--delivery in July, hopefully. The dealer has been trying to sell me on an application of a urethane film (called Autobahn) to the paint surfaces vulnerable to stone chips, bug damage, etc.--notably the front of the hood, front bumper and so on. Do any of the readers know anything about this product. Is it effective? Does it become discolored in time--and so on? Thanks for any input AB

I have heard about this 3m product from a body and fender guy. He say's that's what the high end Porsche uses as well.

I have to opposite problem. I got a deep chip in the paint by the front grill. My 2000 528i is aspen silver. I took it to the dealer ship. They said nothing could be done because of the depth of the chip. All they could do is spot the chip with the same color and cover that with a little clear coat. They did just that, it is the same color as the car but it still looks like a deep chip. Again they said they could not repair it because of the way the Aspen Metalic is applied at the factory.

Dose anyone no a remedy for this without painting the whole hood.
