Car is nice - totally loaded will be $34,000. Has unique styling - like the GS400 - you love it or hate it, but it is at least unique. Brakes and handles better than a 328ia and A4 (the competition they had there). Same 0-60 as the 328ia but faster in quarter mile. Has a computer controlled proportioning valve for the brakes - thus the rear discs are actually LARGER than the front! Stops on a dime - handles incredible. 17" Wheels are standard, 16" wheels are a no-cost option.
Event was at a racetrack where they had a professional driver take you out on the track for the ride of your life. Like a ride at Great America, just much more dangerous and fun (if we had lost a tire that would have been it, even the helmets we were wearing would have been toast). They also had a course setup where you could drive it as well as a 328ia (non-sport) and a A4. I think the car will cannibalize A4 and 323 sales - I think the new 330ia will be in a different league however as it will be $8,000 more similarly equiped. Car is only available with auto for 2001, but will have a stick for 2002.
