No, I did not have to to anything to the sound system. The Carin has a speaker built into the monitor so it works independantly. There are only 6 wires to hook up. 1. Constant battery, 2. ignition battery, 3. Ground, 4. reverse light, 5. parking light, and 6. speed sensor.

The Schnitzer unit was pricey. $700. The Carin 520 you can get on EBAY for around $1100. I don't like the gooseneck mount for the monitor so the console was the only way.
