Anybody planning on keeping their 540i/6spd beyond warranty? If so, any idea what maintenance costs are on V8 vs. I6? I heard the 8 is much more expensive to maintain than the 6. "Bavarian Engine Exchange, Inc." prices in Roundel mag would have you believe the 8 is very expensive ($9475 for 98 740il - 540i not listed but same engine I guess). "M" engine I6 is $6495. So I guess regular 6 is less. Are these prices a good gauge for what "general" repairs would be later (i.e. not just engine but the entire car)?
