: You can find useful information on the websites for Meguires products and at Carcareonline. To remove hardened tree sap I have succesfully used 3-M Adhesive Remover. It is a solvent which will melt tar, sap, dried latex paint, etc. but will not go deeper and cut into your car's finish. I have used it on brand new BMW paint, brand new Ford truck paint and 10 year old Chevy truck paint. You can also use a clay bar sold specifically for paint over-spray but it takes much longer. There might be some visible rings or stain marks left over after sap removal which can be eliminated with products such as Meguires Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner followed by their paint polish and then waxed with your favorite wax. I found their polish to be effective in hiding deep scratches after I drove the Ford down a narrow dirt road scraping brush and branches along the way. Others on this board have had good results with 3-M Imperial Hand Glaze as a pre-wax paint cleaner but I haven't tried it. I'm curious though and plan to order some from Carecareonline along with Blitz wax. I've begun to think that a paste wax will be easier to work with in warm summer temperatures while the liquid wax I've been using is best kept for cold weather use.
