In Reply to: "Real world" waxing info requested... posted by Lon on July 02, 2000 at 18:07:27:

Pay someone to do it right once a year. In between, use spray on wax which is as easy as it gets. Spray it on out of a pump bottle and wipe it off.

: I have visited a couple of car care/detailing sites for info on waxing my 2000 528iA, and read about various methods of obtaining show quality 10/10ths shines. In my "real world" this just isn't going to happen. I am older, have zero arm strength, and am just plain lazy. What I am looking for is something that requires little or no work but will provide a better-than-nothing bit of a shine. Of course no-one here would ever stoop this low on their BMW's, but perhaps on your second (or wife's) car you have used something of this nature and can comment one way or the other on what works best of the worst. I'm thinking along the lines of one step wash and wax products, or perhaps the wax setting on the spray-it-yourself car washing bays. Whatever, it must go on real easy and require no buffing and not mark the black rub strips so they require cleaning. Any input on this?

: As a related question, a guy I used to work with highly recommended Durashine. He uses it on his black Mustang and claims it to be easy to apply, doesn't matk the mouldings, no buffing required, and lasts a year. Anyone tried this?
:
: I should also note my car is light in colour (Aspen silver) and is parked underground and only sees the light of day maybe 6 to 8 hours a week.
