Go with the 16" rims - much better. Also, the taller aspect ratio helps save your rims from those nasty potholes that appear in the Winter. If you have the Radial Style wheels, you can match them with BMW 16" Radial Style wheels (course you have to pay the premium for them). Also you are wize to start looking now - when I bought my car in December, tire rack was out of stock of all 16" rims for the 5-series.

Too bad they don't make the Pirelli Winter Ice tires in the size you need - those are the best all around tire I have ever found. The Winter 210s are excellent dry tires and fair winter tires. Seeing as you end up driving on dry roads 95% of the time, it is the best trade off.
