Here is my method: use any of the miraculous citrus-based cleaners (Nature's Orange, Simple Green) and rub it clean with rag. If it's too heavy soiled, hose it down while cleaning, then press out the water by wiping with the side of your hand. Let it dry completely in the sun. When clean and dry, treat with heavy coat of spray-on fabric protector. And finally, take precautions not to get it dirty in the first place and threaten your passengers with bodily harm :-)
