: I'm on my second dark E39 (first was a 1997 aubergine/aubergine 528; second is a 2000 black/black 540). I'd suggest the shades, as they reduce the heat in the car when you leave it parked in the sun. At $350, it's a good deal.
: I'd also recommend the nav system for all the reasons we've talked about before, plus one more -- it includes the parked-car ventilation system and the full on-board computer.
: I'd also suggest the park distance control (PDC). It's a terrific help when you're parking or backing up -- it has saved my rear bumper more than once. And anything that can help you avoid kids or their toys where you can't see them has got to be worth a few hundred bucks.
: : Well I am committed now. What started out as an order for a 2001 530i Electric Red, 5 Speed Sport/premium ended up being a 2001 530i Cosmos Black, Steptronic Sport/Premium..
: : Aside from ordering in Electric Red, the dealer talked me out of ordering the heated steering wheel, xenon lights and rear sun screen. My question to the wise is, are any of the three options worth ordering?
: : Totally agree with Mitch's comments on the subject items. I have a 98 x 528i and a 00 x 528it. On the wagon, I ordered PDC, sunshades, and xenons- items I did not order on the sedan. Speaking from experience, I have already had the bumper on the sedan re-painted once and my 3-year old is grateful for the sunshades now that they are in the wagon. Also, the shades do keep the interior cooler in Virginia summers. Plus, I did not order a sun roof on the wagon and I think this helps, although my dealer thought I was nuts for doing so. However, I have much more ceiling room and I like this. Amen.
