: : Hi,

: : I purchase a Certified BMW 528i/1997, and will be bringing it in for my free checkup!

: : My dealer is going to reset the check engine light, so I was thinking while it's there do you have any additional points/common problems I can add to my list? I want all common problems to be addressed! Can you guys help out!

: : Here is my list:
: : . Diagnose Check Light (Probably O2 sensor)
: : . Fix glove box, doesn't open smoothly
: : . Door seal common problem??
: : . recalls??

: : Thanks..

: Sergio, I have a 97 528i too. It has over 42K miles on it and has generally been a great car. Other than routine maintenance, my list of problems is similar to yours: 1) check engine light periodically came on for the first 30K miles. Dealer told me it was: a) loose gas cap (baloney), b) bad gas (baloney), c) O2 sensor or engine computer. As far as I know, they never replaced either of these last two items, but fiddled with some settings and the problem seems to be gone (I hope). 2) Sticky accelerator peddle. Dealer never fixed this one; however, another poster on this board offered a fix a couple of days ago, which may work. 3) Hard to open glove box. Again, the dealer has tried this a few times, but without much luck. I have learned how to apply pressure in just the right spot and it opens, but it should not be this tough. Mechanically and electrically, it has been great so far. I change the oil/filter once "in between the lights" (about every 5K miles), but otherwise follow them for service.

I am about to purchase a certified 528/97. The car has the premium package and moonroof and a 6 disk CD changer. In addition, the wheels are for the 540? I am not sure if that is a little strange, but they are there!!! The car is off-lease and has 39000 miles. They are advertising for $36000. The car interior and exterior are in excellent condition and the car purrs like a kitten.

This is my first used BMW. I purchased the 328is/96 brand spanking new and am looking to trade my 328is/96 in for the 528i/97 and am willing to trade my awesome sports performance for awesome luxury and comfort.

What i need to know is whether or not this is a competitive price for the car? Wether or not the 540 wheels are strange? Are used BMW cars REALLY reliable?

And, I have been reading the postings from several boards and have gained some level of confidence in my decision to get the 528i, but would like a little more info before I make this purchase.

Need Some Help ASAP!!!

Thanks in advance.

T
