: My significant other purchased a hands free cell phone kit for my nokia cell phone. Because i have a stick shift, i can't talk while driving (even though i shouldn't be on the phone) so she gave me this kit. (i think the bmw cell phone is a "rip off" and therefore didn't purchase it.) Essentially, it is a cradle that is plugged into the lighter. It holds the phone, charges it, and has a built in microphone and speaker so the driver (or anybody else in the car) can talk without having to hold the phone. It also has a simple extension which can be adjusted so that the phone would not get in the way of the shifter.
: When i plugged it in, it was a very tight fit, but it worked flawlessly. I unplugged it and plugged it back in a few times, in an attempt to adjust the positioning of the phone. In doin this, i must have either shorted out my lighter, or damaged it. Anyway, the lighter doesn't work anymore and the lighter is also loose when i put it back in. I'm going to have the dealer fix the lighter, but i have a question:
: 1) if i leave the cradle plugged in without the phone in it (over-night or for an extended period of time) will the tiny red LED on the cradle drain the car's battery? (There is no on/off switch) The reason i ask is because i don't want to plug and unplug it often, due to the extremely tight fit. I also wouldn't want to break the lighter again.
: I appreciate any advice.
