On 528 with nav (archive)

You get the full on-board computer, parked car ventilation, and alphanumeric MID on a 528 if you order the navigation system. These additional features are why the nav system is about $200 more expensive on a 528 than on a 540.

: : I was excited when I saw all the bells and whistles of the onboard computer on the 5 series videotape that came with my new 528i, only to be disappointed to find out that I don't have any of that stuff on the car. Apparently the upgraded MID is only available on the 540. Is this correct? Is there any accessory or aftermarket product to upgrade a 528? I was most interested in the theft code and the programmable ventilation.

: The "high" version of the "check control" and On Board Computer is only available with the 540.

: It can be obtained for a 528 in other countries (as an option), and I assume it could be obtained by a special order - but only when ordering the car.

: Upgrading after the fact, while technically possible, would not be feasible since there are so many components that whould have to be changed and added (more than I care to cover, and would include a lot of extra wiring)
