Now for the big question: Did you drive the 528
steptronic in the sport mode? Thats when you
move the automatic shifter back to 'D' for drive
and then shift in to the left gate but do not
manually shift the gears.... Did you do this?

If so you would have found that the car hangs in
the gears a lot longer and is ready to 'jump' to
the redline whenever you command !

It truly is a great transmission. I just completed a 2-day BMW drivers school and asked the
class of 99% manuals how many times they had to
shift around Mid-Ohio-Racetrack in a lap....
their answer was about 2-3 times. My Steptronic
shifted about 18-20 times always keeping me in
an optimum RPM range for deceleration and acceleration.

If not then I suggest that you return to the dealer and drive the car again in the sport mode and let the trans do the shifting, you may be very surprised.
