A/C compressor goes to sleep...zzz. - resolved (archive)

Thanks Jim Cash for guessing the problem to my earlier post (below). Yes! the Electric Fan is not working correctly and consequently the rad temp. is higher than normal...therefore the compressor shuts off in order ot keep the engine from over-heating.

: After starting my car (which has been off for an hour or more), the A/C starts to blow cold air as normal. However, after 5 minutes or so the compressor shuts off and stays off, until I reach sustained speed of 30+ for some time, which is almost impossible in Manhattan traffic. (It is very embarrasing if you have others in your 50K+ car and the A/C is blowing muggy/hot air.)
: The temperature needle is pointing dead center, which is normal so the engine is not overheating.

: When the compressor does re-engaged, the A/C works fine from then on, even if I park the car in idle for 15 minutes.

: So why does the compressor go off and not come back the first time?
