I have a 99' 540iA and previously a 95 525i. Both of these cars temp readings never went past dead center of the gauge, regardless of outside temperature, or stop and go vs. highway. If your car has an electric fan you might want to make sure it is kicking like it should. Interestingly enough I think my owners manual says its ok if the gauge is anywhere below the red range.

: I have a 1997 528i and recently I experienced overheat problem. When I have AC on with stop and go trafiic, the temp. goes up gradually to the redline. However, when the jam is over, the temp. goes down as I drive normally. So what is going on?
