: Here's a new question:

: I have a set of 15" Vredestein snow tires for my current 98 528i. I am taking delivery of a 540i this fall. If I buy stock BMW 15 rims, can I put the snows on the 540i for this winter? Even if I'm going from 17" wheels to 15" rims? What will this do to my suspension, handling and tire clearance?

: I hate to get rid of the snows, as they have at least two more winters of use available to them.

: Any help here is appreciated.

From the beginning there was one 15" wheel that was approved for the 540. It was the "AI weight saving forged wheel - 7Jx15 "Styling 31". It required a 225/60 R15 tire.

So if those are your tires then you can use that rim. Otherwise your best bet it to negotiate a new set of BMW winter wheels with your new car, and ask for a trade in allowance for the old set.

You handling will not be quite as firm/precise, but your snow traction will be very good.
