Believe me, I feel your pain. I really like the nav system, and consider myself a gadget junkie besides, so I really, really, really tried to do this. But when I finally got an estimate from the dealer, it was a tough decision.

For me, it came down to two factors: how long I was going to keep my car, and how much the nav system was worth to me.

If I was planning to keep the car a long time (5 yrs or more), then the $5-$6K would average out to $1K/yr or so. Expensive, but do-able.

But since I'm planning to keep my car for less than 2 years, it averages out to $3K/yr. At that price, I decided I would rather save the money and put it as down payment for a new car (with the NAV factory installed).

Good luck.
