Norm,
Consider the fact that you're moving from ///M3 to E39, you would HAVE to dish out the extra $10K to stay satisfied. At the most, you're looking at a front fender lead on 0 to 60 between 528 to 530. I have doubts if it will actually achive that small of a lead.

You have the mean and need, go w/ 540, or even better ///M5 =)

I want to make it clear that the 528/530 is a good performer. The issue here is wherther or not the 530 can close the gap between 528 to 530. And the answer (IMHO) is , NO!

: Thought I was getting new 540i/6 (and still might). Was just offered a deal on 530i and was wondering what porformance differences there might be. I'm coming out of a late model M3 coupe and am concerned about the 3.0l performance in a 5-series compared to the M. How much can the 530i close the gap on the 540i compared to the 528i? (I know about the 528/530 advantages of weight dist and R&P steering).

: Rgds,
