: : 1) A chrome strip on the body side strips will differentiate the 540i from the 6-cylinder models.
: : 2) The Cold Weather Package can now be added to the 540i 6-speed. However, the heated steering wheel option continues to be unavailable on this model due to it's standard sport steering wheel.
: : 3) For added value the universal garage transmitter is now standard on all 540 models with no price increase.
: : These changes are in addition to the other changes that apply to all 5 Series models for MY 2001.

: Will the sport and sport premium packages be available with the cold weather package on models other than the 540i 6-speed (namely the 540i Auto, 525i and 530i)? I sure hope so. If I do buy a 2001 5 Series, it will be the 540i Auto with sport package. I would think that if the 540i 6-speed (where sport package is standard) will be available with the cold weather package (sans heated steering wheel, of course), it would be available on all 2001 5 Series cars (where sport and sport/premium packages (the latter on the 6 cylinder models only) would be available with the cold weather package (again, sans heated steering wheel). But I don't know for sure. This is why I am asking. I am also asking because I love the high-pressure headlight washing system (enhances already stylish apperance as well as visibility). Could you please tell me if this is the case, Jon? Thanks a million! BTW, BMW making the garage door opener standard on all 540i models with no price increase is pretty cool.

Wouldn't count on 'zero' price increase - but hopefully low. Sounds like cold weather package on 540i/6 or iA sport (minus htd steering wheel) really only provides htd seats and headlight washers. Htd seats were already an option so looks like cold weather package really only adds benefit of headlight washers - if I understand correctly.
