I find this whole situation exceptionally disturbing. I hope you "take them to the cleaners". It never ceases to amaze me how large corporations that sell luxury items (read: Expensive!) can react with such indifference when a valued customer (?? I wonder just how much they value their customers) has a legitimate issue.
