i also have the dsp in my 00 5 SERIES , i thought it sounded like crap ( for the money ) , but once i dialed in the adjustments, what it really lacked was serious sub woofers. i had in my previous car (2) 10" solo baric subs in a sealed box and a klean powerful ppi amp SO i had my local shop install it for about $100 they made no major mod's ,i had the existing sub woofer panel removed and placed the subs facing the trunk , very little loss of trunk space , the 5 inch sub wholes are arleady there in the rear panel when you take out the existing panel so it allows enough air to flow into the cabin,,,its sounds very very klean and i have heard and gone thru several systems , i highly recommmend unless you plan on just a complete upgrade , head unit , spkrs ,ect ect,,then i see no point in invsstng in the dsp , but again i already had the sub box and amp which together the value alone is $1000
rite there,,so the overall quality i would say is very very good considering its a $2500 system and the get to the next level your gonna wind up spendng at least 4k or higher to hear a considerable difference in sound just my opinion.
keep the dsp. especially if you are going to trade it in dwn the road keep it simple but get ride of the existing subwoofer box,,its a joke!
