I agree about the poor performance of the paint. I think BMW does a beautiful job of painting the cars, and I understand that robots do the actual painting. But what I don't get is how an expensive car can have paint that chips down to the primer or metal from a small rock. I also have a company car, a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria, which has been pelted with much highway debris, including stones, and has no damage whatsoever. I also had an 87 BMW 3 series that had the same problem with paint chips. So I don't think it has anything to do with BMW switching to an environmentally safe paint formula recently. They really need to work on getting more durable paint finishes.
