From what I have read in several British auto magazines, the NG (new generation) V8s will share "architecture" with the upcoming new V12. Suposedly they will come out shortly after the new 7 series appears in late 2001 as a 2002 model for the US.

Is BMW coming out with new V8 engines any time soon? The current V8 engines haven't had a major redesign since 1994 (4.0L, then capacity increased to 4.4L, then Vanos a year ago or so). Not that there's anything wrong with the 4.4L of course, but other companies are certainly starting to catch up in this area.

I read some time ago rumours of a new 4.8L 325 hp V8 and a 3.8L 275 hp V8, but haven't seen seen anything recently. Maybe the new 7 series will debut with new engines?

I also heard somewhere that the new 7 will have a brand new V12 which will be the basis for new V8 engines.
